Marine minerals group merges with mining society The International Marine Minerals Society has merged with the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration effective May 2011. IMMS becomes a division of SME under the merger, with its name changing to IMMS of SME. “IMMS gives the mining industry access to the wealth of knowledge and expertise accumulated from years of working in the marine environment,” IMMS President Georgy Cherkashov said in a statement. “Through our merger with SME, we will now be able to share the opportunities offered by ocean mining.” IMMS will lose one part-time position as a consequence of the merger, said Tara Davis, SME’s membership manager.… Read More
